The sun rays of evening light up the sky; birds sing and mother nature relaxes in peaceful harmony to rest. It is an amazing thing to see evening break into the day, reflecting that the day is ending and that the sun will eventually go down and give up its rights to light the sky to the moon. It projects the ending of the day, the changing of the guard, a time to relax and rest for the sun as the moon begins to do its work.
And so it is with us humans. The day ends and we need to rest, but do we rest? Do we lay down our burdens and really relax or do we start planning the next move, the next step, or the next project that we plan to do. JESUS told the 70 that He had sent out, after their return, to rest. In fact he took them aside to a quiet place.
Maybe, just maybe, that should give us a hint. Sure, we all have to meet certain expectations, wrestle with unexpected surprises, and learn how to maintain in this world but maintaining is not riding on the edge about to burn out. No, there is a time and season for everything. In six days GOD created heaven and earth. I cannot find anywhere in the Bible that He worked nights also. I believe HE walked through the garden in the evening and relaxed and observed all of what HE had already created. If you read your Bible you will see that GOD came to meet Adam in the cool of the evening. (Genesis 3:8 RSV)
So, let us begin to turn off our thoughts in the evening and relax our minds, and regenerate our bodies through sports, or by reading a good book or just enjoying the quietness of a beautiful evening with the sun going down.
You will never know the invigoration of resting until you calm down and come to a state of rest and let GOD revive your weary soul through an activity that HE has planted within your heart.
Be blessed this week.
