- What do I plan to read next?
I Wish You Were Mine by Lauren Layne
Background: Phoebe and Daniel's meeting is a disaster. Tired of Daniel's bickering, Phoebe leaves his office and goes to the Human Resources office.
I have pasted the complete dialogue which is 25 paragraphs. (2+3+20 =25).
"Morning, Peter, do you know no one is in your department?" Phoebe asked as she entered in.
"Of course, I do. We have a staff meeting this morning, and everybody's meeting in the conference room for what we call a working breakfast."
"Sounds cool. Can I disturb you for a moment?"
"You can disturb me anytime, Phoebe. How is that rainbow family of yours?"
"They're fine and still the highlight of my life. I'm glad I went out on a limb and adopted them."
"That's good to hear. Are the boys adapting to the girls?"
"No problems there. The Quads love the girls and the girls love the quads. I'm lucky it turned out good."
"So what bring you to me, Lady?"
"I'm going to resign, and I want to make it as of today so that I don't have to come back here tomorrow. Since you were the one that help me land this job, I wanted you to be the first to know."
"Would you mind repeating what you said? I don't believe I'm hearing correctly."
"You heard right. I want to leave the company today."
"Phoebe, how long have you and I known each other?"
"Since I inherited the house from the older couple I'd taken care of before they died."
"Then you should know that I want to have an explanation. You don't just walk in here and tell me you're resigning as of today."
"Peter, let's just say that I'm fed up with our Managing Director pushing me around. Regardless of what I do, he finds fault with it, and he's not even in charge of my department. And this morning took the cake. He could be happy that I didn't have a cake in my hands because it would have landed on his face.
Peter burst out in laughter. "That I would have loved to have seen. Daniel Cochran with cake all over his face," he said between chuckles. "Now would you like to tell me what is going on?"
"No, I wouldn't, Peter. You work for him. He's your bread and butter. You'll get my resignation as soon as I inform Kirk and then go to my desk and write it out. "
"Phoebe, you need this job. You don't do enough concerts in a year to take care of your affairs."
"You're right. I do need a job Peter but not a jerk that thinks he can yell at me and push me around."
"Look, I've got the meeting with my staff in ten minutes. Let's you, Kirk and I go to lunch and talk about this."
"You guys can do all the talking you want, and I'll listen, but my mind is made up, I'm leaving. How much severance pay do I receive, since I'm the one quitting?"
"Phoebe, I have to look at your contract first. I don't remember the conditions that you signed under. So, we'll talk about that later, and besides, your resignation hasn't been excepted yet."
"Well, I'm let you get on with your staff meeting," Phoebe said as she stood up to leave.
"Talk to Kirk, Phoebe, and I'll see the both of you at lunch."
